How to Plan a Valentine’s Party

First decision: date and time. Your best shot for getting lots of guests is to pick a not-prime time. Try something the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, for instance, or Sunday, the day after. Also an off-time, such as brunch of lunch instead of cocktail or evening party. Check to make sure “key players” can come. Also a time when you’ll have the week before to do the work.


Guest List Write down whom you want to invite and take a count. This determines everything from cost to venue to refreshments.

Does Your PDA Make You Organized?

In a word, no. Clients often ask me if electronic is better than paper, or if they should use a PDA (like a Palm Pilot or Blackberry) to manage their schedules, handle e-mail and such. The best advice is that it doesn’t matter what you use if you don’t have productive habits. Buying a piano doesn’t make you a pianist and buying a new electronic gizmo will not make you organized.


That’s the biggest problem with many of the time management and organization solutions being offered out there. Nothing is going to improve your productivity if you don’t develop new behaviors to replace ineffective ones.

Changing your guitar strings might make you feel a litte uncomfortable if you have never done it before, but it’s really quite simple and should become a regular part of your guitar care routine. Before you do anything, first take time to make some personal observations such as:


1. Which way do you have to turn the tuning keys to tighten or loosen the strings?


2. How are the strings aligned from the nut to the bridge?


3. Which is the heaviest string?


Taking mental notes will probably save you some frustration and make the job much easier.
